Karkat Vantas
Knight of Blood
"Dave and Karkat... are KIND of adora8le?? In whatever quadrant that whole situation settled in."
~Vriska on Dave and Karkat's relationship
(totally not a crazy davekat shipper)
"MY HATE IS THE LIFEBLOOD THAT PULSES THROUGH THE VEINS OF YOUR UNIVERSE."
~Karkat's first attempt on trolling John, which failed since John had already talked to Karkat many times to him
The Knight of Blood was always an angry troll. He would run his big mean mouth whenever anyone would reach out to him. Yet it is not entirely his fault. They say his rage is a continuation of his ancestor's Final Sermon. Karkat would have been a lime blooded troll had he not had his mutation. It can be speculated that lime blooded trolls were the opposite of purple blooded trolls, being able to pacify troll rage, while purple blooded trolls strike fear into others. All lime blooded trolls were culled because of their power, but deep inside, Karkat was the last lime blooded troll. He was able to pacify his moirail, the Bard of Rage.
He wanted to be leader because he thought it would earn him respect. But his repeated failures as a leader led him to become quite insecure of himself. He handed leadership over to the retconned Thief of Light, becoming a stupid drawer in the process. But the Sylph of Space realized that this was a mortal mistake. Knowing The Knight's dream self was dead, she knocked him out and left him in a safe place to protect him and help him realize his place as leader. Unlike his predecessor, he was an amazing leader, yet he didn't know. He just needed to see the fatal mistakes of the other to realize.
Kankri Vantas
Seer of Blood
"Triggers include 6ut likely will n9t 6e limited t9 class 9ppressi9n, culling culture and vi9lence against gru6s, lusus a6use, c9mplementary and anal9g9us hate speech, pail filling, slurries and 9ther c9ncupiscent fluids, lifespan shaming, a6leist slurs, pr9lix dissertation..."
~Kankri on Triggers
The Seer of Blood played quite a different role on our team from that of his successor, though his potential as a Blood player went similarly unrealized. It was only when he grew up on Alternia did he begin to tap into his abilities, triggering recollection of our lives on Beforus, and what we all went through.
He remembered our more peaceful way of life, and his desire to unite people. As an adult, he was able to do this much more effectively and maturely. Heroically, even. He learned how to inspire others, and be a true leader, even when the odds were stacked against him in his violent culture. It cost him his life, but his message lived on. I believe the Knight of Blood now carries his burden, whether he has decided to accept it or not.
Many of us on Alternia grew up to become secret followers of his teachings. Just as many of us now follow them, though I'd say with a bit more detachment, because we're dead! Speaking personally, I'd refer to myself as more of a "fan" of his story, and what it represents. Both the hidden potential in our friend he never quite found, and the hidden potential in all our people.
During our session, Kankri's trials as a leader were just as frustrating as those of his successor. He found it very hard to get others to take him seriously. While Meenah would often try to divide us with her troublemaking, and turn us against each other to make us stronger - unsuccessfully I might add - he would try to unite us through proselytizing and lecture, just as unsuccessfully.
Kankri Vantas Post-Scratch Version/The Signless/The Sufferer
Post-Scratch Seer of Blood
Inspired by his visions, he spread word of a culture free from conflict and suppression based on blood color. This eventually resulted in a large scale sectarian revolt that would be crushed by the highbloods. After the revolt, he was captured and killed. Even though any reference to the revolt was forbidden, his followers and teachings remained alive in secrecy, referring to him by the numbers 6 and 9 replacing the b and o respectively in sym69ls, as they resembled the cuffs confining him at his execution.
He was never as angry as Karkat until his torture, when his love for his people became an all consuming rage and hate that rang throughout paradox space as the Vast Expletive, his final sermon. In fact, it has been implied that the anger he felt during his final moments lives on in Karkat, with whom he shares the blood mutation. As his name implies, the Signless was not given a symbol like other trolls normally are. It was through his instruments of punishment (shaped like the Cancer sign) that his followers gave him a sign, and a new title: the Sufferer.
