Stomach clawing at my insides, I sneered, searching for a nighttime snack. A faint light in a bedroom; with more examination, determined as a nightlight, brought a sinister grin to my face. Perfect.
A little girl was hiding under her covers, frightful of the infamous monster hidden in her closet. I licked my lips; there would be a real monster in there tonight.
I crawled up the outside wall, opening the window slowly, so the girl wouldn't notice. I was silent and stealthy; after years of practice, I've gotten pretty good at this kinda thing.
The girl shifted, whimpering. I crept up so close that my head was behind her ear. A breath escaped my lips, and I whispered in a truly haunting voice. "Dinnertime."
Shrieking, she flailed and flipped to face me. Her pupils were enormous, black with the thinnest rim of brown on the outer circle.
Without hesitation, I loomed forward and opened wide, shoving her mouth open with my claws as well. I sucked in, pulling the fear away. It only seemed to make her more fearful, but the sensation was wonderful and I leaned in and went for more.
Fear was...delicious. Feeding on fear felt like feeding on power; I felt strong and capable.
Nothing could stop me.
Except maybe my own fears.
