History:
Ominous clouds swirled above in the nighttime sky. Silence was everywhere. Some people slept, others did their "business" stealthily. Stealing, fighting, and the like. One particular girl was here to kill. Sure, it sounds bad, but she'd killed many before. After all, that's just what assassins do. She was part of the group called Eclipse. The word had spread about them, and she intended to have it keep spreading. Which meant more killing.
Rai walked through the seemingly deserted streets. She knew better than to think she was really alone, though. Every once in a while she heard footsteps around her, or a muffled scream. She hated how this part of town smelled. Like rats, sickness, and death. The stench was almost unbearable; it even seemed a little heavy, like you could feel it. Oh well, one can't always ask for perfect conditions when assassinating...
The target this time was a mere woman. She'd done nothing terrible, committed no crimes, killed no people, but she had been hanging around a certain wife's husband, and the wife was starting to get ideas. So, naturally, she called on the help of an assassin to clear this obstacle. Stupid lovers, Rai thought, they kill more people through assassins than anyone else. Oh well, not like I mind... Rai stopped walking and looked to her left. She'd arrived at her destination. Rai didn't like using doors when she was on an assignment, so she climbed in through a window too high for most people to reach. But she had trained for years for this, despite only being 17.
The woman was awake, standing and looking at something in her hands. Rai snuck up behind her and quickly clasped a hand over the woman's mouth to keep her from screaming. Or more accurately, to keep the scream from being heard. But there wasn't fear in the woman's eyes, only a strange knowing look. Like she expected this. She closed her eyes and waited for Rai to do her work. But something made Rai remove her hand from the woman's mouth and ask, "How did you know?"
"Another woman told me she hated me. With how things have been around this place lately, that obviously meant she was hiring someone to... kill me." The woman's voice was a little shaky. Rai didn't know what to think. Why did this woman's reaction unnerve her so much? She was just another target. The next words the woman said were what really got to Rai, though. "Can you at least leave me time to write a note to my family?" Then Rai saw what the woman was holding. A picture. Four people: two parents and two daughters. This wasn't just another 'target.' No one Rai had killed had ever been just a 'target,' just another job she had to do. No, these were all people. They were all humans with lives and loved ones. And if anyone knew how important love was, it was Rai, because she'd barely had any of it. She left the house without killing the woman.
In that one night, everything changed. She continued taking missions, but stopped killing anyone but criminals- those who deserved it. It didn't take long for her boss to figure out what she was doing. He warned her of the consequences. She ran, knowing there was no place to hide. He was an influential man. He had a group of well-trained assassins at his bidding. The only way Rai would ever win would be to stop running, turn around, and face him with her own group of talented fighters. The first step in that plan involved finding others to help her. Somehow, she did. Now was the time for the next step... finding and defeating Eclipse, and Astavion.
