He could feel the ship shudder beneath him as another barrage of missiles crashed into her side. She veered violently to the left, and he tumbled to the floor, rolling partway down the flat metal hall as a low metallic keening shuddered throughout the length of Marjipa. The world spun around him, lights crackled in and out of existence. Hot wires skittered across the floor, shedding sparks in a frenzied white dance. Groaning, Camdyn lifted himself to his feet.
This wasn't right. When he had agreed to this two years ago it wasn't with the intention of his ship, the Marjipa, becoming a war machine! He was a captain, not a general. He didn't fight in battles.
His eyes narrowed to slits as he raced up to the bridge, chest heaving, a slow, warm trickle of blood sliding down his side.
Farren....you God be damned, reckless idiot. What have you gotten me into this time?
