Maple lifted his head, yawning as his drowsiness slowly disappeared. Daylight was looming and the sun was high in the air.
He stretched his limbs before getting up on all fours. He then unfolded his wings, extending them fully with a sigh of content.
Life is good. Maple thought smugly.
Maple dawdled to the edge of the cliff he rested on, leaning off the edge. Sucking in a breath of fresh air, he leaped off.
And with a simple extension and flap of the wings, he was airborne. The feeling of the gusty wind buffeting his face, the air catching on his wings, feeling like the King of the World...was like no other.
He was on top of the world; anything was his to seize.
After spending quite a long time in flight, he landed back to his cliff. Despite the hard workout, he hadn't broken a sweat.
But unnatural strength was in his blood; it was his Power.
The Power he earned at the Coming of Age; the one he had risked his life over.
And he couldn't have been happier.
